There is also a second chronology which<br \/>\nprovides valuable information on the Summer Olympiads and Winter Olympic<br \/>\nGames. The brief descriptions of each event include specifics about the<br \/>\nsite selection, the number of participants, notable individual performances,<br \/>\nand other prominent happenings.<\/p>\n<p>The book contains a dictionary that has hundreds of entries on the sporting<br \/>\nevents, governing organizations, officials, participating countries, memorable<br \/>\nevents, and many of the most decorated athletes of the Olympic Games.<br \/>\nEach entry provides background information on the subject and details<br \/>\nthe related Olympic significance.<\/p>\n<p>The appendixes and reference section are also full of pertinent information.<br \/>\nThey provide tables and lists, including such items as former IOC members,<br \/>\npresidents, and Olympic Order and Cup recipients. The reference section<br \/>\nlists several scholarly works covering the Ancient and Modern Olympic<br \/>\nGames.<\/p>\n<p>The authors were founding members of the International Society of Olympic<br \/>\nHistorians (ISOH). Bill Mallon and Ian Buchanan each served terms as president<br \/>\nof the ISOH and both have been recognized for their contributions to the<br \/>\nOlympic movement by being awarded with the Olympic Order in Silver. The<br \/>\nOlympic Order is the supreme individual honor accorded by the International<br \/>\nOlympic Committee.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Historical Dictionary of the Olympic Movement<\/em> is a useful,<br \/>\nquick reference guide to the Modern Olympic Games. The dictionary provides<br \/>\nhistorical information that can meet the educational needs of a student<br \/>\nwhile also providing the historian or sport enthusiast with a relatively<br \/>\neasy read.
